Last Sunday saw the 3rd running of Birdwell Wheelers Open Hill Climb on Well Lane up to Green Moor.

Riders were welcomed by Green Moor Cricket Club who kindly offered the venue for signing on.

On a pleasant day with barely a breath of wind 40 riders braved the hill. The course record for under 16 boys was broken by Joshua Power in 2m 55.3s. Maia Howell also broke the under 16 girls record in 3m 47.2s.

In the Women’s event Mary Wilkinson of Yorkshire Road Club dominated in a new course record of 2m 41.0s which was also a new Women’s Veteran (40+ years old) record.

In the Men’s event Kieran Wynne-Cattenach was fastest in 2m 17.1s just 0.6 seconds ahead of last year’s winner Andy Nichols. Fastest Veteran was Andy Laidler in 2m 38.9s.

Fastest Wheeler was Dan Emery in 2m 59.3s with Trevor Mayne crossing the line in 3m 22.2s.

Following the easing of Covid rules the club is now meeting for the Sunday rides at Brewers Fayre roundabout, Wombwell at 9am. Visitors are welcome. Check the club’s Facebook page https://tinyurl.com/BW-FB-page for last minute changes.
