Last Saturday Birdwell Wheelers hosted an Open 10 mile time trial at Cuckney in Nottinghamshire.
The event attracted riders from as far away as Reading. A warm day with a light wind made for nearly ideal conditions. Fastest on the day in a new course record of 19m 11s was Thomas Lee of Team Bottrill who receives the Taylor Trophy. Fastest female in 24m 04s was Gretchen Zoeller of VTTA(Yorkshire) who receives the Jim Carr Trophy, named after the club founder.
Riding a standard road bike, fastest in the category was Richard Lewis of Reading CC in 22m 37s.
Fastest Birdwell rider was Trevor Mayne riding a road bike in 24m 41s finishing 5th in the road bike category. Phil Tyas of Barnsley Road Club finished 6th overall in 21m 44s on his time trial bike . Barnsley Road Club teammate Dean Bowmer on a road bike pipped Mayne by just 4 seconds to finish 4th in the road bike category.
Fastest on age adjusted time was Ian Guilor of Mapperley CC in 21m 26s age adjusted to 19m 58s.
Tuesday saw the fifth of the club’s 5 mile Time Trials at Thurgoland. Fastest on the night was Simon Warren of Norwood Paragon in 12m 48s. Second was Mark Fawcett of Barnsley RC in 14m 08s. Fastest Wheeler was Paul Heggie in 19m 31s.

The 5 mile event is open to all comers. Riders should sign on from 18:30. Entry is £5 and riders must wear a helmet and have working front and rear lights.
