“Last Saturday saw Wheelers Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie open their 2018 season. Mayne rode in the VTTA (North Midlands) 10 Mile Open Time Trial at Stavely near Chesterfield. His time of 23m 56s placed him 15th overall and 8th on age handicap.

Heggie rode the Harrogate Nova 15 Mile Open Time Trial on the old A1 at Boroughbridge. His time of 39m 17s placed him 3rd in the 60-69 age group and was also a club age record.

On the same day John Woodhouse rode the “Charnwood in the Spring” Audax event. The 104 km ride followed a scenic route through Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire taking in Charnwood Forest. Woodhouse completed the event in 4 hours, well within the time limit.

The previous weekend Wheeler Chris Jenkins rode the gruelling Magnificent Seven event comprising closed road climbs of seven of Sheffield’s steepest hills.

Sunday saw eight riders set off from Brewers Fayre, Wombwell via Stairfoot. The A group of Trevor Mayne, Marc Peasgood and Chris Jenkins headed to Dewsbury while the B group of Phil Adams, Rodger Holmes, Austin D Watson, Tony Lodge and Tom Booth headed to Holmfirth.

This week the club’s Easter Sunday run sets off at 9am from Brewers Fayre roundabout, Wombwell . Visitors are welcome on the ride.
