A busy week for Birdwell Wheelers started off on Wednesday evening when Trevor Mayne rode in Rutland CC’s hilly Time Trial on a 17.2 mile circuit of Longstone Edge around some of the most scenic roads of the White Peak. Mayne rode his road bike and finished in 53m 51s placing him 24th in a strong field.

Mayne was in action again on Saturday in the LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists) road race at Sevale near Malvern. One rider broke away and Mayne joined a chasing bunch of five riders. Mayne was in the group of three that broke away in the last half mile and finished 4th overall and 2nd in his age category.

The start of the Bank Holiday weekend saw Dave Hudson, Roger Bacon, Phil Adams, Alan and Lucy Bullock out on Saturday completing a 75 mile loop out to Misterton.

Wet and windy weather on Monday didn’t deter Chris Jenkins, Steve Myatt, Tony Lodge and Lee Ellis from completing a 65 mile ride out to Sherburn in Elmet with a café stop at the Aero Club.

The club’s 3rd 5 mile time trial at Thurgoland is on Tuesday at 7pm. Visitors are welcome.

Sunday’s club run is to York and meets at Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell at 9am. Again visitors are welcome.
