Last Saturday Wheelers Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie travelled down to Newmarket for an early start the next day in Shaftesbury CC’s 50 mile time trial on the A14/A11.

Heggie was off at 06:34 and was going well covering the first 25 miles in 61 minutes but faded on the return leg to finish in 2h 13m 48s just 13 seconds outside his own club 65 years age record.

Mayne was off 16 minutes later and passed Heggie some 8 miles from the finish. His time of 1h 53m 27s knocked a massive 9m 43s off the club’s 55 years age record which had stood to Mel Shaw since 1993.

Also on Sunday Wheeler Dave Scargill rode in the LVRC Emsall Road Race at Upton over 7 laps of a 6 mile course. The group stayed together for 4 laps when unfortunately Scargill missed the break but sprinted at the end to finish in the main bunch. His next target is the National Championships in August.

Sunday’s club run saw Chris Jenkins, Roger Bacon, Phil Adams and guests Alan and Lucy Bullock complete a 70 mile ride to Hope in the Peaks.

This Sunday’s club run is to Uppermill and leaves Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell at 9 am. Visitors are welcome.
