In what is likely to be the last weekend of competitive cycling for some time , Wheeler Trevor Mayne rode his first road race of the year when he competed in the British Masters Cycle Racing event for over 40’s, the Fleche Waltonne near Leicester last Saturday.

On a day of awful conditions with heavy rain, muddy roads and a temperature of 6 degrees, Mayne was dropped by the bunch twice but managed to claw his way back on. A small group of riders had escaped and in the bunch sprint he finished 21st overall and 8th in his age category.

The club’s Sunday ride in changeable weather saw Steve Myatt, Roger Bacon, Philip Stewart Adams, Rodger Holmes, Kath Brankin and Chris Jenkins ride a 40 mile loop with 2000ft of climbing to Langsett..
