Last Sunday saw Birdwell Wheelers’ annual Open Hill Climb up Well Hill to Green Moor.

On a fine but windy day 18 riders tackled the 1 km climb which averages 8% gradient and peaks in places to 12%. Fastest overall and fastest veteran was Nick Latimer of Team Lifting Gear in a new veteran’s record by 5 seconds of 2m 26.2s. Just 1.7s behind in 2m 27.9s was Tom Parsons of Team Jewson. The final podium place went to Iain Duffield of PMRR in 2m 39.4s.

Fastest woman and fastest Juvenile was 13 years old Maia Howell of Matlock CC in a new Juvenile record by 4 seconds of 3m 43.3s. Second and fastest woman veteran was Sonia Insley of Bolsover & District CC in 4m 16.6s.

Fastest Birdwell Wheeler was Trevor Mayne in 3m 29.4s.

Nick Latimer has his name on the trophy for a second time, the first being for the club’s Open Hill Climb at Curbar in 2010

Sunday’s club ride meets at 9am at Brewers Fayre Wombwell. Visitors are welcome.
