“Wheeler Trevor Mayne continued his fine late season form last weekend.
On Sunday he travelled to St. Ives in Cambridgeshire for the LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists) 59 mile road race.
At half distance he managed to break free from the bunch and join another rider from a younger age group. The two then worked well together to keep a gap on the bunch and in the sprint finish Mayne was just pipped on the line but he was 1st in his age group.
The previous day he rode the Rutland CC Open 10 mile timetrial at Hatfield Woodhouse and recorded a time of 22m 05s finishing 9th overall in a field of 60.
Birdwell Wheelers club run on Sunday saw Robert Parkes, Philip Stewart Adams, Chris Jenkins, Steve Myatt and Austin D Watson ride a 75 mile round trip to Carlton near Snaith.
This Sunday’s club run leaves Brewers Fayre roundabout at Wombwell at 9:15 and heads out on a 70 mile route to Wetherby. Visitors are welcome.
