Last Sunday was a busy one for members of Birdwell Wheelers. In the morning Dave Scargill travelled to Goosetry in Cheshire for the LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists) National Championship road race. The race over 5 laps of a rolling 10 mile circuit saw a lone rider escape from the bunch. Scargill and four others escaped from the bunch and chased for two laps. On the third lap one rider was dropped leaving Scargill with three others two of whom refused to work. The next lap saw one of the four bridge across to the leader leaving Scargill in a group of three to contest the sprint in which Scargill came fifth overall.

Also on Sunday morning Trevor Mayne travelled to Newport, East Yorkshire to ride in the VTTA 10 mile Open time trial. On a day when fast times were at a premium due to the high temperatures Mayne recorded 22m 19s placing him 6th overall and 4th on age handicap.

He then returned home and travelled to Green Moor Sheffield where the club was promoting its Annual Open Hill Climb. 38 riders braved the 1100 yard climb up Well Hill to Green Moor. Fastest on the day was Calum Brown of Team B38 in a new course record of 2m 14.7s. Fastest woman was Rebecca Richardson in 2m 50.6s also a new course record. Fastest Wheeler on the day was new member Dan Emery in 2m 52.2s. Mayne finished in 3m 18.6s and third Wheeler Chris Jenkins finished in 3m 37.6s.
